A VULNERABLE man in his 80s had his life savings stolen after a thief broke into his Redditch home while he was out on Thursday afternoon.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and information following the burglary which happened in Four Oaks Close, Oakenshaw, between noon and 2.30pm.

They also want to trace a man in a yellow high visibility jacket who was seen calling at the address at around 12.30pm.

The victim returned to his house to find that entry had been forced and around £1,000 stolen. There were signs the property had been searched.

Detective Constable O’Reilly of Redditch CID said: “This gentleman is extremely vulnerable and he is devastated by the loss of his life savings. It is a truly despicable offence and I would urge anyone who knows who might be responsible to come forward and tell us.

“The victim does not go out that often so it may be that the property was being watched before the break-in.

“We want to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity, including any unusual vehicles that were noticed there.

“We also want to identify a man seen calling at the address in a yellow fluorescent jacket at around 12.30pm. There might have been a legitimate reason for him being there but we need him to contact us so that we can eliminate him from our inquiries.”

Anyone with information should call DC O’Reilly at Redditch Police Station on 0300 333 3000, quoting the incident reference 132-N-090212, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
