Former England and Aston Villa footballer Lee Hendrie has been declared bankrupt.

A petition for bankruptcy was brought against the midfielder by HM Revenue and Customs on December 19, the High Court was told.

The 34-year-old, who did not attend the hearing in central London, has not paid back any of his debts.

Mrs Registrar Derrett heard that there had been no contact from Hendrie, no letters had been returned and no payments made.

She said she was making the bankruptcy order “in the absence of any contact”.

Hendrie, who now has also played for Sheffield United, Leicester and Blackpool and is now signed with Kidderminster Harriers, reportedly earned £24,000 a week at the height of his career.

The former Premier League player, who won his only England cap in 1998, has homes in Solihull, West Midlands, and Rowington, Warwickshire. He was signed for Bandung FC in Indonesia last year on a two-year contract but returned before the end of 2011.

MP plans London showcase of the best of our county

Not sure this is one of Karen Lumley MP’s better ideas but we will see

The following article is from the Redditch Standard local newspaper.

THE BEST the county has to offer is set to be showcased in Parliament.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley is the driving force behind the Worcestershire Day  likely to be held within the House of Commons in early summer.

Plans are in their early stages but the idea is to give businesses across a  wide range of industries the chance to promote themselves to ministers, national  media and trade officials from a variety of countries.

Visit Worcestershire, which promotes the county as a tourist destination, and  county council representatives will also be invited to attend.

Mrs Lumley told the Standard: “We know what a great place Worcestershire is  but we need to do whatever we can to make sure we promote it and this is just  one way.

“We’re hoping by getting the London media to attend and travel journalists  they will be able to spread the word so when people are looking to invest they  will see what a great place Worcestershire is to do business.”

Another county promotional event is being organised by West Worcestershire MP  Harriett Baldwin and is set to take place at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium  in March.

It will give businesses the chance to promote themselves to trade envoys from  various countries across the world from Russia to the Maldives.

Mrs Lumley: “A number of countries have expressed an interest in attending  and we want them to see what we do well so when they are looking to invest they  will consider Redditch and Worcestershire.”
