DOG poo will be sprayed fluorescent orange as part of a campaign by Redditch
Borough Council to tackle the problem.

Council officers will target problem areas with the brightly coloured
washable paint in a bid to grab the attention of dog owners and remind them why
it is important they clean up after their pooch.

Banners will also be put on the side of dustbin lorries as part of the
crackdown and temporary signs put up warning anyone who fails to scoop up their
pet’s mess faces a £50 fine.

Last year’s campaign reduced the number of dog fouling incidents in targeted
areas by around 32 per cent.

Councillor Brandon Clayton, responsible for local environment and health on
the council, said there was no excuse for people not picking up after their
dog.

“Redditch residents should take zero tolerance towards offences of this
nature as leaving dog poo on our pavements, parks and verges is a disgusting
habit,” he said.

“Dog poo is picked up on people’s shoes and pushchairs and unwittingly
trodden into carpets in the home, school or workplace. Dog poo carries
infections that can cause blindness, fits and asthma.”

But angry residents hit back at the Council saying by spraying it orange the
council is drawing attention to it why don’t the Council just clean it up this
is just barmy and utter madness

Resident “Peter Thomas said yet again our council tax is being wasted on a
team of officers to spray the streets of Redditch orange have the Council gone
mad”

Residents group chairman Peter Andrews said this came up at our residents
meeting on Thursday and the feeling was this was a silly idea about 30 Residents
spoke and all agreed  it was stupid. I can understand the Council wanting to
tackle the problem but spraying it bright orange is stupid. The cost of officers
going round spraying it would be better spent cleaning it up.

Resident  Adrian Neil said Even if we tell the Council it is silly they never
listen anyway but i will be making my feelings known at the next Council
meeting. As i am sick of my Council tax being wasted on silly ideas. If
the Council stopped wasting the money we pay our Council tax could be cut by at
least 50% if not more “Im very angry about this yet again Redditch will be in
the Newspapers because of the council’s silly ideas.
